Overview

Mears Transportation Group is widely regarded as one of the finest passenger transportation companies in the United States. Anyone visiting the Orlando area who has had the opportunity to ride in one of their many taxis, shuttles or coaches will have appreciated the high levels of professionalism and courtesy displayed by their drivers. In 2008, Mears saw a sudden increase in the incidents of threats, and actual violence, against their taxi drivers. Providing their taxi drivers with the safest and most secure workplace was seen by Mears as an investment rather than a cost.  


The Challenge

Mears wanted to obtain the most cost-effective solution to the problem of violence against their taxi drivers. It was important that the solution would be embraced by both the drivers and the travelling public. Any solution needed to be absolutely secure in order to ensure the privacy of the drivers (and the public) and also to ensure that any images of an incident would be admissible in a court of law. Finally, they needed a system that could be installed easily and quickly in their fleet of over 625 taxis. 


The Solution

The VerifEye TaxiCam was selected by Mears for its reputation of image quality, image security and reliability.   Mears specified the latest "G5" dual camera head and 2GB of memory to ensure that they had everything they needed to meet their existing requirements, plus the ability to add additional cameras in the future, if they decided to do so. The fact that VerifEye could provide an immediate turnkey implementation, including training of installation and download personnel, with delivery of all 625 systems in less than 3 months, was a bonus.
